Julianne Smoral Friedman R.I.P.
A Mother with her Beloved Babies
Julianne Barbara Smoral Friedman 1915-2001
Julianne Smoral Friedman died peacefully on February 13th at her home
in Baltimore where she had lived since 1998. The youngest of nine children,
she was born in Syracuse, New York to Polish immigrant parents. At the age
of seventeen she moved to New York City where she lived with her dear sister,
Charlotte, and worked at businesses as varied as bookkeeping and bombsight
assembly. She was the widow of Michael F. Friedman, to whom she was
married for 51 years, having lived together in Brooklyn, NY, Hillsdale, NJ and Annapolis, MD.
She loved to travel and spent many winter months in Palm Desert, California where
she enjoyed golf and tennis. She is survived by her two sons, Robert Friedman, of Baltimore
and Jeffrey Friedman, of Frederick.
Julianne spend her last years in her cozy cottage on the property of her son and daughter-in-law
during which time she was able to visit every day with her three grandchildren, Chloe, Robbie
and namesake baby Julianne.
